Two Rivers Wine Tour – An Uncorking Adventure!

Sept 6th, 2008  -  10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Sip your way through a beautiful fall day with a glass of locally grown wine to get the taste buds tingling.  A visit to several of the wineries in the Two Rivers area could be the ideal way to enjoy an affordable day away.  Each winery offers a diverse range of homegrown flavors to suit all palates.

"The winemakers have been creating and doing a terrific job with blending the wines," said Bill McCartney, IGGVA Executive Director. "They've been getting better every year."

Guests are offered the chance to sample a selection of the different grape varieties and also buy bottles of their favorites at a discounted rate.  Participants will get special access and tours at each winery visited as well as have the opportunity to participate in a Grape Stomp Festival, music and food.

Wineries on the Tour

Hopewell Winery  www.hopewellwinery.com

Hopewell Winery opened its doors on September 1, 2007 and lives up to its logo “The Perfect One Day Vacation”.  The winery sits on an acre yard and has a banquet hall. We can host corporate events, weddings, wedding receptions, baby showers, and other private events. At Hopewell Winery, we boast nine different wines, three dark beers on draft, and five dark beers in the bottle. We also serve a bistro menu every day and a dinner menu on Friday and Saturday nights.

Ridge View Winery www.ridgeviewwinery.com

The Hanolds were one of the five founding members of the Western Illinois Grape Producers Associated Cooperative in 1999.  The co-op now has 41 members in western Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa.  They planted their first grapes in 2000 and now have five varieties.   Ridge View Winery opened in June, 2007.  The winery features a 5,000 square foot lower level for making, aging, bottling and bonding wines.  The first floor opens on a great room complete with fireplace, vaulted ceilings, and tasting bar.  A banquet room with seating for 200 guests adjoins the great room.  A balcony around the great room features seating with a tremendous view of the surrounding wooded hills and valleys.  Open decks on the outside of the winery also offer panoramic views.  These views should be a real treat this fall, when the vast greenness of the landscape takes on the colors of autumn.

Included at this stop is the Grape Stomp Festival.  Get a real feel for authentic grape production!  Lunch will include pulled pork sandwiches, brats, baked beans and potato salad.   Music will be provided by Acoustic Avenue.

Spirit Knob www.spiritknob.com

Nestled in the bluffs with our vineyard nearby, the backdrop for your wine experience is an ever changing panorama of the Mississippi River Valley.

Wander through our vineyard, taste our wine, or just relax and contemplate the view.

The excellent airflow down the bluffs, combined with the rich loamy soil and sun-drenched summers, create an ideal grape and fruit-growing region.

Spirit Knob Winery uses the finest fruits picked only at optimal levels. Enjoy the flavor of our estate wines made with French-American hybrid grapes. In addition to our estate wines, we offer quality fruit wines produced by our own winery.

Savor the natural beauty of Adams County's first bonded winery, established in 2002.  At Spirit Knob Winery we pride ourselves in offering great wines in a comfortable country setting.

We are celebrating our 12 out of 12 medals at the 2008 Illinois State Fair wine competition! Here's the scoop! 1 gold, 8 silver, and 3 bronze!

If you would like to stay for dinner at Hopewell Winery upon your return, please make prior reservations at  (217) 285-2759.

Overnight accommodations are also available at Heartland Lodge at a discounted rate of $85 for double occupancy or $165 for a suite.

We strongly encourage you to obtain more details about the tours, events and view photos of the outstanding wineries by visiting the web sites for the individual wineries and the Access Illinois Outdoors website at www.accessil.org.
